Show Notes

In this episode, I am discussing such an important topic! It is a topic that we don't necessarily like to talk about, which is what will happen after we pass away. Nobody likes to think about this, but if you do not organise it well, it can create a lot of family conflict during an already difficult time.

I'm interviewing Lucy Percy from Head and Heart Estate Planning. She helps people to create their wills and does their Estate Planning with them. We talk about how much conflict can occur after people pass away and Lucy gives tips and tricks on how to avoid this as much as possible.

The conversation with Lucy reframed for me how I see wills and estate planning. Instead of dreading thinking about this subject and putting it off, I have reframed it to: How wonderful that we can help to set up our families deal with losing us in the best way possible!

Think about it this way -  if you do not organise anything, your loved ones, who are grieving, have to make a lot of decisions. Making decisions is hard when you are grieving at the best of times, but it is even harder when you are not sure what the deceased person would have wanted. This is one of the things that people get in conflict about with each other. Everyone might have a different idea of what you wanted based on how they knew you or what you talked to them about and it can lead to a lot of mess that you could have prevented.

I now look at doing my will and estate planning as a way of taking care of my loved ones when I am no longer there. When your wishes are crystal clear,  people can just do what you asked. This way they do not have to make as many decisions while they are grieving and they know they are doing what you wanted them to do, which can give people a lot of comfort.

I really enjoyed this conversation, I learned something new and it was a beautiful conversation in general full of heartfelt stories.
